Scorpion Review
2018Album
Ninety minutes split into a rap side and a singing side, and both of them are twice as long as they should be.

The structure tells you everything: twenty five tracks split into a rap half and a singing half, released at a length nobody sequences and everybody streams. God's Plan and Nice for What are two of the biggest singles of the decade and both were months old before the album arrived. In My Feelings turned into a dance and outlived the record. Emotionless has a real idea in it about performance and privacy.
Everything else is volume. The rap side is defensive throughout, because he had just been comprehensively beaten in public and the album keeps circling that wound without ever addressing it. The singing side is pleasant and interchangeable. A posthumous vocal from a departed pop icon is deployed on one track and is exactly as strange as that sounds. Cut to forty minutes there is a good album in here. At ninety it is a catalogue rather than a record, and this is where the run stops.
