Reincarnated Review
2013Album
A reggae album made by a tourist, sold with a documentary and a new name, and believed by almost nobody.

The music is not the disaster people remember. Major Lazer built him a clean, warm set of riddims, the bass is deep, the horns are placed properly, and as background it is entirely tolerable. The problem is everything above the bassline. Rasta rebirth is a serious claim and he treats it as a costume change, delivering platitudes about unity in a register with no weight behind it, and the sincerity gap is audible in every chorus.
La La La is bland. Here Comes the King is a genre exercise. Lighters Up is the one track with any real lift, mostly because of the guests. The Bunny Wailer objection at the time, that the whole thing was a marketing exercise draped over a culture, is hard to argue with once you have heard it twice. He is a charming man and charm alone will not carry a conversion. As a curiosity it is worth one listen.
