Pluto x Baby Pluto Review

2020Album

A joint album made because both parties were free that month, and it plays exactly that way.

There is a good album available from this pairing and nobody went looking for it. The premise is sound, one voice thick and syrupy, the other light and darting, and the handful of tracks where they actually respond to each other suggest what a considered version might have been. Drankin N Smokin is the best of those, a hard beat with both men pushing. Patek is efficient.

Bought a Bad Bitch has a decent hook. The rest is two artists recording verses in separate rooms over beats that suit neither especially well, then handing the results to a sequencer. There is no arc, no theme and no evident interest in making one. It arrived at the end of a year when everyone was releasing everything and it feels like a product of that logic. Pleasant background noise made by two people capable of much better, which is the definition of a missed opportunity.
