Never Enough Review

2023Album

Pretty, wandering and fifteen tracks long, with a handful of songs that remember to arrive somewhere.

This is a nicer listen than Case Study 01 and a less interesting one. The palette is warm again, acoustic guitar and light synths and a lot of double tracked falsetto, and the mixing is beautiful. Always is the standout, three chords and a repeated line that earns its simplicity. Do You Like Me? is the closest thing to a single and it has real charm. Let Me Go, with Mustafa, is genuinely touching.

Then there is a long stretch in the middle where songs drift for three minutes on one mood and stop, and the album becomes background to itself. The writing continues to be his weak point, sincere and general, circling doubt and faith without landing on an image sharp enough to remember. At fifteen tracks it needed either a stronger argument or a shorter runtime. What is left is an artist with one of the loveliest voices of his generation making music that is easy to like and hard to hold onto.
