More Life Review
2017Album
Sold as a playlist rather than an album, and the looser framing is the most useful thing about it.

Calling it a playlist was a marketing dodge and also an accurate description. It runs eighty minutes, hands whole tracks to other people, changes country every few songs, and never pretends to be a statement. That looseness is why it aged better than the album before it. Passionfruit is one of the best things he has ever put his name to, a soft house record with a bassline that will not stop.
Get It Together and Madiba Riddim are the same trick on borrowed forms. A London rapper gets a track to himself and a British singer gets another, and both are highlights that barely involve the host. Where he does rap, the writing is the usual late period material, grudges and receipts and lines about loyalty. Portland and Gyalchester are filler. As an album it would be a mess. As a long drive's worth of music curated by someone with excellent taste and diminishing things to say, it works.
