Missionary Review

2024Album

The reunion everyone wanted, made thirty years too late by two men with nothing left to say to each other.

Nobody could argue with the pitch. The producer who built him returns for a full album, the drums are crisp, the arrangements are detailed, and there are moments where the low end alone justifies the exercise. Gunz N Smoke has a proper swing. Outta Da Blue lets the voice sit in the pocket the way it used to. What is missing is any pressure. Both men have been comfortable for twenty years and the record has the temperature of a well catered reunion, all references to past glories and famous guests dropping in to wave.

The Sting sample is a misjudgement. The Eminem appearance is loud and unrelated to anything around it. Nothing here is bad and nothing here needed making. It is a handsome piece of work that will be played twice by people who love the first one, and it will not change anybody's ranking of either man.
