Lil Durk 2X Review
2016Album
The label years at their lowest. Generic beats, borrowed hooks and a rapper visibly stuck.

This is the sound of a contract being fulfilled. The beats are the cheapest available version of what was on the radio in 2016, bright synth presets and drums with no weight, and the songs are built around choruses that could belong to anyone. She Just Wanna is fine and forgettable. Money Walk has a decent guest verse doing the work. My Beyonce is a novelty.
What is genuinely absent is any of the specificity that later became his whole appeal, the naming of names and the plain accounting of loss, because the album is aiming at a listener who does not want that. He left the label not long after and the improvement was almost immediate, which suggests the problem was the arrangement rather than the artist. As a record it is thirty minutes of nothing followed by fifteen more. Nobody involved would argue otherwise now.
