Jeffery Review
2016Album
Ten tracks named after other people, a dress on the cover, and the most joyful thing he has made.

The gimmick with the titles is a joke that turns into a structure, because naming a song after a footballer or a rapper frees him from having to write about anything and lets the vocal do everything. It is his most physically enjoyable record. Wyclef Jean is four minutes of pure invention over a plucked guitar loop, the melody changing shape every eight bars, and it is one of the best individual performances in modern rap.
Pick Up the Phone is a proper hit and sits comfortably here. Harambe and Kanye West bring different textures without breaking the mood. Guwop is the posse cut and it is a riot. Thirty seven minutes with no filler, no concept to explain and no attempt at gravity anywhere. The cover caused an argument that has long since stopped being interesting. The music has not stopped being fun, which is the harder achievement.
