Honestly, Nevermind Review

2022Album

A surprise house record with almost no rapping on it, and the most interesting thing he had done in years.

Dropped with a few hours notice, fifty two minutes of Jersey club and South African house and Baltimore breaks, and the internet spent a week deciding whether it was allowed. It is not a great record and it is a genuinely enjoyable one, which is a trade his albums had stopped offering. Falling Back and Massive are proper dance tracks, built and mixed by people who make dance tracks, and they do not need him to do anything except hum over them.

Sticky is the one rap song and it is the worst thing here. The lyrics across the album amount to almost nothing, a series of stray thoughts about women who have disappointed him laid over grooves that would work perfectly well as instrumentals. Judged as writing it is his weakest album. Judged on whether you would put it on in a kitchen or at a party, it beats everything he made after 2016, and that gap is instructive.
