Fuck the World Review

2020Album

Thirty five minutes of beautifully produced nihilism, and the brevity is what saves it.

The sound design is genuinely excellent. Everything is spacious and low lit, with hi hats that skitter at the edges, bass that sits deep without booming, and vocal stacks arranged in dense, slightly dissonant clusters. Clouded is the best example, a track that keeps threatening to resolve and never does. Rehab, built on a woozy loop, is the standout. Bad Luck has a hook that lodges.

Fuck the World has the confidence of somebody who has stopped explaining himself. What you have to sit with is the content, which is thirty five minutes of contempt for the women in these songs, delivered without irony or reflection and occasionally with a smirk. He is a good enough singer that the delivery keeps it seductive, which is precisely the problem and arguably the point. Short enough that it never outstays itself, and it is a record you admire technically more often than you enjoy morally.
