Freddie Review
2018Album
A short, disposable joke record made in a hurry, with a cover parody and very little underneath it.

The cover is a parody of a famous soul album sleeve, the running time is twenty six minutes, and the whole thing was clearly assembled quickly between bigger projects. As a showcase for rapping it is fine. He is never bad, the double time passages are as clean as ever, and 2 Legit and Weight are enjoyable in the way an offhand thing can be. The beats are the issue: modern trap of that year, competently done, entirely anonymous, and they give him nothing at all to push against.
Where the great records hand him texture, this hands him a metronome. There is also no subject. He is describing the same life he has described far better elsewhere, without the detail that makes it land, and the jokes end up carrying more weight than they should have to. It works as a palate cleanser between two much better albums. Nobody is going to make a case for it beyond that.
