EVOL Review
2016Album
The same formula six months later, colder and thinner, and it still works about half the time.

This is where the run starts eating itself. The ingredients are identical to the album before it, slow bass, detuned leads, the same vocal processing and the same subjects, but the beats are lighter and the writing is running on the memory of ideas rather than fresh ones. Low Life is the reason to keep it, seven minutes with a guest whose whole style descends from these records, and it is genuinely great.
Wicked is a chant built out of one word and a snarl. Ain't No Time and Xanny Family hold the middle. After that it thins out badly, three or four tracks that pass without leaving an impression. Released at speed while the market was still hungry, it is the first project of the era where you can hear the machinery, and the difference between this and the album before it is the difference between a world and a wallpaper of that world.
