Eternal Atake 2 Review

2024Album

A sequel to a great album that borrows the title and none of the invention.

Naming it after the best record in the catalogue was a promise the album cannot keep. The production is competent modern trap with a few synth flourishes that gesture at the original's palette without ever building anything as strange, and the rapping, which was once the most rhythmically inventive thing in the genre, has settled into a comfortable mid tempo pattern that rarely surprises.

Chill Bae has some energy. Meat Grinder is the closest thing to the old speed. Elsewhere hooks arrive on schedule and leave without impression, and the beat switches that used to feel like doors opening now feel like edits. The delays did not help, since half of it leaked and the rest sounded dated by the time it arrived. It is not an embarrassment. It is a competent record wearing a great record's name, and the comparison ruins it.
