Entergalactic Review
2022Album
A love album attached to a cartoon, and easily the most relaxed he has ever sounded.

Removing the pressure to be profound turns out to be the best thing anyone has done for him in years. Because the songs exist to serve a story about a young man falling for his neighbour, they are allowed to be small, and the result is forty four minutes of genuinely pleasant music with no demons in it anywhere. Do What I Want has a lovely rolling bassline.
Angel and Willing to Trust are straightforward and sweet. The production leans on clean synths and live sounding drums rather than the usual fog, and his voice, which has always been limited, sounds better placed in a mix built for melody than in one built for atmosphere. It is slight. Nothing here will change how anybody ranks him and there is no ambition beyond a mood. As a record to put on while doing something else it is the most useful thing in his catalogue.
