DS2 Review
2015Album
The peak. Fifty minutes of chemical fog with a bottom end you can feel in your chest.

Everything works because nothing lifts. The beats are slow, enormous and monochrome, low bass and one bright detuned figure repeating, and the sequencing keeps them at the same temperature for the full run so the record becomes a place rather than a set of songs. Thought It Was a Drought opens with the most quoted first line of the decade and never raises the tempo.
Fuck Up Some Commas is a chant. Blow a Bag and Freak Hoe do the same thing with different colours. Where it goes beyond a mood piece is the writing on Blood on the Money and Kno the Meaning, where the drug talk turns inward and briefly stops being fun for him. It is grim, repetitive and completely intentional about both, and no album has been imitated more consistently over the following ten years. The influence is enormous. The record itself still sounds better than the copies.
