Debí Tirar Más Fotos Review
2025Album
A record about leaving Puerto Rico that keeps Puerto Rico in every bar, and the first Spanish-language album to win the top Grammy.

The title translates as I should have taken more photos, and the whole record sits in that ache: someone who left, an island that changed while he was gone. Nuevayol opens it over a sample of Un Verano en Nueva York by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and the next hour moves backwards through the Puerto Rican forms that reggaeton was supposed to have replaced. Plena on Café con Ron, played by Los Pleneros de la Cresta. Bomba, salsa, and the cuatro carrying Lo Que Le Pasó a Hawaii, which states the argument without metaphor: land sold out from under people, a language going quiet.
None of it reads as a museum piece, because Tainy, MAG and La Paciencia keep the low end current enough that a six minute live salsa track can sit beside dembow without either one flinching.
Then the record kept going. Thirty nights of residency in San Juan through the summer of 2025, album of the year at the 2026 Grammys, the first Spanish-language album to take it, and a halftime show in February that put a sugarcane field and a plena band in front of the largest audience American television has. It went back to number one more than a year after release.
