Curtis Review
2007Album
A pop record from someone who no longer sounded dangerous or interested. Chases everything, catches nothing.

The strategy is visible from the first bar, which is a problem when the strategy is to be liked. He spends the record reaching for radio in every direction at once, a Timbaland song, a Justin Timberlake song, an Eminem song, a soft one for the women who bought the last two, and none of them commit to anything. Ayo Technology is the only track with an idea in it, a cold electronic thing that has aged better than the album around it.
I Get Money is genuinely great, a lazy boast over a hard loop, the one moment where he sounds like himself. Elsewhere the menace has been sanded down to a shrug and the writing is running on autopilot, the same three subjects with fewer jokes. Losing the famous sales week is remembered as the story here, but the record had already conceded before anyone counted.
