Bush Review
2015Album
Pharrell makes him a slick funk record and forgets to give him anything to do on it.

The sound is genuinely lovely. Ten tracks of clean live bass, tight drums and layered falsetto harmonies, mixed with the kind of care that makes a record easy to leave on, and at thirty eight minutes it never overstays. Peaches N Cream is the highlight, a bounce built on almost nothing that would have been a hit in three different decades.
So Many Pros has real charm. The issue is that he barely raps on it and does not sing well enough to justify the space, so the album keeps reaching for a lead performance and finding a pleasant croak instead. Where the Neptunes tracks on earlier records used his delivery as an instrument, here they mostly work around it. It is a producer's album with a guest of honour who happens to be the billed artist. Nice to have on. Impossible to care about.
