Almost Healed Review

2023Album

A therapy album at sixty eight minutes, with the good writing spread far too thin.

The intention is admirable and the execution keeps undercutting it. He wanted an album about survival and its cost, and where he writes plainly it works, particularly on Pelle Coat and All My Life, which manages to be a message record without turning into a lecture. Therapy Session is the closest he has come to putting the whole thesis on one track.

Sad Songs is affecting. Around those, twenty one tracks of guests and radio attempts dilute everything, and the production is glossier and lighter than material this heavy can support. A Voice memo from a self help author as a framing device is a well meant idea that reads as filler. Cut in half this would be the best thing in his catalogue. As it stands it is a good album you have to assemble yourself, and most people will not bother past the first ten tracks.
