Five years on from the record that got them both their widest audience, the pair went back to the same well. The formula is unchanged: obscure loops treated gently, drums mixed under the sample, and a rapper who does not need a beat to knock in order to sound dangerous. What has changed is the stakes. The first one was made by a man with something to prove during a year when nobody could leave the house, and it carried an edge this does not.

Here he sounds settled, wealthier and much less hunted, and the writing follows: more retrospection, fewer of the small vicious details that made the earlier record land the way it did. The production is lovely throughout and a couple of the guest turns are excellent. It is a comfortable record from two people who are very good at this, and comfortable is not what made them worth hearing in the first place.
