Xiaomi shipped its first car in 2024 and its second, this one, in the summer of 2025. The YU7 is a large electric coupe SUV, just under five meters long on a three meter wheelbase, and it took roughly 200,000 orders in the first three minutes it was available. That number says as much about Chinese retail as it does about the car. The car holds up anyway.

Three versions run from a single rear motor with 315 horsepower to a dual motor Max with 681. Batteries are 96.3 kWh of lithium iron phosphate or 101.7 kWh of nickel manganese cobalt, the architecture is 800 volt, and the CLTC figure reaches 835 km, which in honest driving is closer to 600. The cabin is the part that will be copied: a display projected across the base of the windshield in place of an instrument cluster, HyperOS behaving the way it does on a Xiaomi phone, and material quality that has no business at this price.

The caveats are real. It is sold in China only, Xiaomi has been building cars for two years rather than two decades, and the durability record is still being written. Judged on what it delivers for roughly the equivalent of thirty five thousand dollars, nothing from a legacy maker is close.
