2024TacomaCar
The fourth generation Tacoma is better at everything except the part where you sit in it and drive.

Toyota redid the whole truck and the wins are real. The 2.4-liter turbo four makes more torque than the V6 it replaced, the interior is a generation ahead of what came before, the off road trims with the disconnecting anti-roll bar are genuinely capable, and the resale is the best in the segment by a wide margin. That last point is the strongest thing on this card and the reason people keep buying them at prices nobody else can hold. Reviewers are just as consistent about the compromises.
The steering is slow and tells you almost nothing about grip, the truck feels clumsy through corners, and the ride is choppy and unsettled over anything short of fresh pavement. Early trucks drew owner complaints about rough low speed shifts, blank screens and interior rattles, and reports of eight speed transmission trouble on some early builds have not helped. The day to day experience is the weakest part of the truck and that is why it grades below everything around it. As a thing to own for ten years it is still the safest bet in the class.
