The Gravity is Lucid's first SUV and its bid to turn one brilliant sedan into a business. It uses a 123 kWh pack and dual motors, and the Grand Touring on sale now makes 828 hp and a range up to 450 miles, the best of any electric SUV. A Touring trim opens the line at $79,900, with the Grand Touring at $94,900.
Two things stand out. The packaging is witchcraft: Lucid fits three usable rows and limousine passenger space into a footprint no larger than rivals, because its motors and electronics are so compact. And the efficiency is simply unmatched, which means real 400 mile road trips and short charging stops on the Tesla Supercharger network through the native NACS port.
The risks are real. Lucid is a young, low volume company that has lost a lot of money, its service footprint is small, and the Air has depreciated steeply, which the Gravity will likely echo. The software is much improved but still trails the polish of the best, and long-term reliability is unknown.
Buy it for the range, the space, and the interior, which is calmer and more special than an equivalent BMW or Mercedes. Just understand you are backing a startup, and price the depreciation risk into the decision.
