Lexus GX 550 (2024) Review
2024GX 550Car
A twin turbo V8 replacement with real off road hardware, a Land Cruiser chassis and fifteen miles per gallon in town.

The GX is the sleeper of the luxury segment. Underneath the leather it shares its body on frame architecture with the Land Cruiser, which means a two speed transfer case, a locking centre differential, huge suspension travel and on the Overtrail version a disconnecting anti roll bar and thirty three inch all terrain tyres. It will follow a Wrangler further than anyone expects. The 3.4 litre twin turbo V6 makes 349 horsepower and 479 pound feet, which gives it a genuinely muscular shove and a proper towing rating.
The redesign is the best looking thing Lexus has done in years, all flat glass and square shoulders. Inside it is quiet, comfortable and properly finished, though the third row is small and the ride is firm in the way a ladder frame always is. The cost is fuel, because fifteen miles per gallon in town is the reality and there is no hybrid on the base cars. Toyota group reliability, sane service costs and extraordinary resale values then make the long term ownership picture far better than any German equivalent.
