Hyundai has been the most consistent electric car maker in the business for five years and this is the payoff. The Ioniq 9 is enormous, and rather than disguise that it uses it. The third row seats adults, the second row reclines properly, and the cabin materials and switchgear sit a clear step above what the badge and the price suggest. Every configuration is rated beyond three hundred miles, the 800 volt architecture charges faster than almost anything at the money, and the ride is quiet and settled in a way testers keep comparing to cars from two tiers up the market.
The big American road test outfits rate it near the top of its class. It is not a driver's car. Three tons is three tons, the base rear drive version is leisurely, and the styling is smooth to the point of anonymity. The real caution is resale. Large electric SUVs have been losing value quickly and there is no reason yet to assume this one is immune, which is the single grade on this card that sits well under the others. Lease it and it is close to unbeatable.
