A 365 horsepower rear drive sports sedan that costs less used than a well equipped Camry, and there is the whole story.

Genesis hired the right engineers and it shows the moment the road opens up. The 3.3 litre twin turbo V6 makes 365 horsepower with a hard, linear pull to the redline, the rear biased all wheel drive system lets the car rotate, and the standard Brembo brakes and adaptive dampers give it real body control rather than the artificial firmness that usually stands in for it. Steering is quick and better weighted than an Audi. Inside, quilted leather and a proper set of physical climate controls make a good first impression, even if the switchgear cannot match Munich or Stuttgart for damping.
The compromises are practical ones. The back seat is genuinely small for the size of the car, the boot is shallow, economy in the low twenties is the price of the V6, and the infotainment screen sits low. Then the ownership picture, which cuts both ways. Depreciation is brutal, so a new buyer loses badly while a used buyer gets a small BMW rival for compact car money, and Hyundai group parts and labour keep the maintenance grade far higher than any German equivalent.
