Ferrari Daytona SP3 Review

2022Daytona SP3Car

A mid-engined V12 with no hybrid help, a body that quotes the 330 P4 and seats built into the tub: the SP3 is Ferrari indulging itself, beautifully.

The SP3 belongs to Ferrari's Icona series of limited cars that borrow from historic racers, and it commemorates the 330 P4s and 412 P that finished first, second and third at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona. Ferrari unveiled it at Mugello in November 2021, and all 599 were sold by invitation before production at around $2.25 million each; every owner of a Monza SP1 or SP2 bought one. It was the first mid-engined V12 road Ferrari without hybrid assistance since the Enzo. A 600th, finished in black and yellow for charity, sold for $26 million at RM Sotheby's in 2025.

The engine is a version of the 812's 6.5 liter V12 mounted behind the cabin, making 829 hp at 9,250 rpm with a 9,500 rpm redline, through a quicker-shifting version of the 812 Competizione's seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. There are no active aerodynamic devices; the body alone makes about 500 lb of downforce at 125 mph, and the radiator ducts are routed through the doors. The published figures are 2.85 seconds to 62 mph, 7.4 to 124 mph, more than 211 mph and a dry weight of 1,485 kg. Top Gear described the engine pulling hard from 3,500 rpm all the way to 9,500, and Evo judged that Ferrari had set the car up for an immersive drive rather than lap times.

The cabin is built around the driver in the LaFerrari manner. The seats are part of the chassis and do not move, so the pedal box slides instead, and Autocar found the arrangement so good it wondered why all cars are not built that way. The roof lifts off, the doors open upward, and most functions sit on touch-sensitive controls, with a 16 inch curved display ahead of the driver. The EPA rates it at 13 mpg combined, and servicing costs what a V12 Ferrari costs. Values are another matter: a standard customer car sold for $17.8 million at RM Sotheby's Monterey sale in August 2026, and other auction results have run past $6 million.

The SP3 does not advance Ferrari's technology much. It takes the best engine the company had, puts it in the middle of a carbon tub borrowed from the LaFerrari Aperta, and wraps it in what Autocar called Ferrari's best design work since at least the LaFerrari. That is enough. Of the modern limited Ferraris, it is the one most likely to be remembered for how it looks and sounds rather than for what it measured.
