Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Review
2023Challenger SRT HellcatCar
Absurd, unrepentant and enormous, with one of the great engines of the century bolted to a 2008 platform.

The Hellcat is a joke that stopped being funny and became genuinely beloved, because the engine is magnificent. Six and a bit litres, a supercharger the size of a small dog, 717 horsepower and a noise at idle that announces itself two streets away. It is not remotely a sports car. It weighs over two tonnes, the platform underneath dates to the previous decade, and it will not follow a lumpy road with any grace. What it will do is haul four adults and their luggage across a continent in comfort, which almost nothing else here manages, and then destroy a set of rear tyres for entertainment.
Fuel economy is the worst on this list in town and only slightly redeemed on the motorway. Maintenance is cheap because it is a Chrysler, and there is an entire industry supporting it. The surprise is resale, which has been remarkably firm since production ended, because everyone understands there will not be another one. Buy it for the engine and forgive everything else.
