The best engine range in the segment, wrapped in a cabin that keeps reminding you what it cost to build.

Shop the Silverado for its engines and you will come away happy. The 2.7 liter turbo four is far better than a four cylinder in a full size truck has any right to be, the 5.3 and 6.2 liter V8s do the traditional job without drama, and the 3.0 liter Duramax diesel is the quiet star of the whole segment, good for the middle twenties on a highway run while pulling more than most owners ever will.

Chevrolet raised payload and towing again this year and the truck hauls with real composure. Super Cruise is the second reason to shop it. On mapped highways it steers, brakes and changes lanes with your hands in your lap, and it is still the most convincing system of its kind at anything like this money. Then you climb in. Testers keep filing the same complaint: a mid trim Silverado nudging fifty thousand dollars has cheap looking switchgear, unconvincing plastics and a column mounted gear selector that feels two decades old, and a bigger screen does not rescue the impression.

Owner surveys are unkind about durability too, with transmission behavior and electrical faults the recurring themes and repeat dealer visits more common than they ought to be. Buy the diesel, buy high in the range or low in it rather than in the middle, and the truck makes sense.
