The ZR1 takes the Z06's 5.5 liter flat-plane V8 and straps two turbos to it, and the result is 1,064 hp at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet quotes 0 to 60 mph in roughly 2.3 seconds and a 233 mph top speed, with the optional carbon aero package generating more than 1,200 pounds of downforce. It starts at $174,995 for the coupe.

The engine is the whole point, and it is genuinely one of the great production motors: it revs hard, sounds unhinged, and delivers hypercar acceleration for a fraction of hypercar money. Chassis, brakes, and aerodynamics are all up to the job, so this is not a straight line novelty. On performance per dollar there is nothing else close under a million dollars.

The compromises are the ones you would expect. Fuel economy is poor, the cabin is improved over older Corvettes but still short of six figure European rivals on material feel, and running costs for tires, brakes, and service are steep. Dealer markups and limited allocation mean the sticker is often optimistic.

This is a car for the track day driver who wants numbers that shame supercars without paying supercar prices. If you want a plush grand tourer, look elsewhere; if you want the fastest thing per dollar with a badge you can service in most states, the ZR1 is unmatched.
