Aston Martin DBX707 Review

2023DBX707Car

The best-driving large SUV on sale, and the most beautiful, sold by the company least able to support it.

Aston took an SUV that was merely good and turned it into the class benchmark. The AMG-sourced 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 was raised to 697 horsepower with larger turbochargers, the torque converter automatic was replaced with a wet clutch nine-speed that shifts far more decisively, and the brakes became carbon ceramic as standard. The chassis is the star. It has more steering feel and better body control than anything else this size and shape, and it disguises its mass better than a Urus or a Cayenne.

It is also comfortably the best-looking thing in the segment, with proportions that no rival has matched, and the interior after the 2023 update is finally worthy of the exterior. The costs are unforgiving. Fuel consumption is dreadful, servicing is expensive with a small dealer network, and Aston depreciation is steep enough that a two year old car is a very different proposition to a new one. Wonderful, and a poor financial decision.
