Stable Diffusion's importance is not that it makes the best pictures, it is that anybody can have it. The weights are published, the thing runs on a consumer graphics card, and everything else follows from that: thousands of community fine tunes, adapters that pin down a face or a house style, node based tools that turn a good result into a repeatable pipeline, and no filter sitting between a user and the request. For batch work, for training on a brand, for anything that has to run offline or at volume without a charge per image, nothing closed competes.
It is scored here on two axes it does not attempt, since it neither reasons nor writes code, and those marks report only that it is an image model. The fair criticisms are output and setup. The newer models, open and closed alike, land better hands, cleaner lettering and more obedient compositions, and getting started means a graphics card, a large download and a stack of choices a beginner has no basis for making. The ceiling is lower and the whole thing is yours.
