Gemini 3.8 Flash landed on September 2, 2026, three weeks after 3.7 Flash, as what Google calls its most intelligent workhorse model: built for coding, agents and enterprise workflows, with a 1 million token context and the speed and price of the model it replaces. That price is introductory. It is $0.75 in and $3.75 out per million tokens until December 31, 2026, and it doubles to $1.50 and $7.50 from January 1, 2027. Developers reach it through the Gemini API, AI Studio, Android Studio and Antigravity, while consumers need a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan to use it in the Gemini app, AI Mode in Search and Sheets.

The coding gain is the story. Google's model card puts it at 73.7 percent on DeepSWE v1.1, up from 65.3 for 3.7 Flash and above the 71.0 xAI reports for Grok 4.7 on the same test, and at 54.9 percent on Humanity's Last Exam Verified. It is not a frontier model in disguise: Claude Opus 5 still leads it on computer use, 75.4 percent to 59.0 on OSWorld 2.0, and the card records hallucinations and occasional timeouts. Google also warns that it works harder than 3.7 Flash, with extra reasoning steps and tool calls, so at high effort it can spend more tokens, and it suggests lower effort, or staying on 3.7 Flash, where efficiency matters most.

For high volume coding and agent work it is one of the best values on the market, which earns A grades for coding and repetitive tasks. The price doubling on January 1, the token appetite at high effort and a consumer tier that sits behind a paid plan are why the whole stops at a B, a clear step up from the C its predecessor earned here.
