MiniMax M2.7, released March 18, 2026, is the value end of the open weight market. It offers a context window around 205,000 tokens, text in and text out, open weights for self hosting, and hosted pricing near thirty cents in and one dollar twenty out per million tokens. The M2 line has leaned on efficient attention to keep throughput high and cost low, and 2.7 is the current refinement of that recipe.
The point of this model is economics. For classification, extraction, tagging, routing and other high volume repetitive jobs, it does competent work at a price that makes the frontier flagships look absurd, and you can run it yourself to drive the marginal cost lower still. What you give up is the top of the capability curve. On hard reasoning, nuanced writing and the most demanding agentic coding it is clearly behind the leaders, and it is text only, so multimodal work is out.
Reach for MiniMax M2.7 when volume and budget dominate and each individual call does not need to be brilliant. It is a workhorse for pipelines and background jobs, not the model you put in front of a customer for your hardest questions. As a cheap, ownable engine for bulk automation, it is hard to beat.
