Gemini 3 Pro, released on November 18, 2025, was the model that started the Gemini 3 generation and set the template the rest of the family refined. It has a one million token context window, up to about 66,000 output tokens, native multimodal input, and priced at two dollars in and twelve out per million tokens. At launch it was a genuine frontier contender on reasoning, coding and tool use.
Nearly a year on, its place has changed. Gemini 3.1 Pro delivers roughly double the reasoning at the same price, so 3 Pro is now the value option rather than the leader: still capable, still cheap, but bettered by its own successor and by the newest models from OpenAI and Anthropic on the hardest tasks. For a lot of everyday work the difference will not show, which is why it remains perfectly usable where it is still offered.
It is a reasonable pick for workloads already built on it and for cost sensitive tasks that do not need the latest reasoning, but for anything new there is little reason to choose 3 Pro over 3.1 Pro at the same price. Treat it as the solid outgoing flagship it is.
