Galaxy AI is Samsung's umbrella for the AI features on its phones, tablets and watches, launched with the Galaxy S24 in January 2024, nine months before Apple Intelligence, and extended to older models through updates. It combines Samsung's own models with Google's Gemini, on the phone and in the cloud, and lives inside the apps you already use rather than one chatbot: live translation for calls and conversations, Note Assist and Transcript Assist for summaries, Writing Assist in the keyboard, Photo Assist for generative edits, and Google's Circle to Search on a long press.
Reviewers split the suite into hits and filler. Circle to Search is the standout, object removal in the Gallery is accurate, and on the Galaxy S25 generation Now Brief earned cautious praise while the deeper Gemini integration proved genuinely helpful. Writing tools, camera filters, Drawing Assist and an Audio Eraser that removes too much or too little feel more like demos than habits.
Samsung has also dropped the end of 2025 cutoff for free access: basic features stay free, though it reserves the right to charge for future premium ones. It is not a chatbot or a coding tool, which the lower critical thinking and coding grades reflect; Gemini does that work on the same phone. As free, built in shortcuts, it earns its place.
