Editing video by deleting words is still the best idea in creator software, sold on a credit meter that keeps moving.

Andrew Mason's 2017 insight has aged better than almost anything else in creator software: a video is a document. Descript transcribes what you shot, shows you a script, and when you delete a sentence the footage goes with it. Strip every filler word out of a ninety minute interview with one checkbox. Cut a rambling take by highlighting it and pressing delete. For anyone who talks for a living and edits reluctantly, that removes a skill barrier rather than automating around it, and a conventional timeline is still sitting underneath when a cut needs real care.

The AI layer is best where it is boring. Studio Sound makes a laptop microphone sound like a treated room and is the single best value feature in the product. Overdub patches a misspoken word in your own cloned voice. Underlord, the assistant, writes chapter markers, pulls clips and drafts titles, and is competent at that and forgettable at anything creative.

What has got worse is the invoice. Since the September 2025 overhaul the plans meter two separate things, media hours for transcription and AI credits for everything clever, so Creator at twenty four dollars a month on annual billing buys thirty hours and eight hundred credits, and a heavy month of dubbing or voice work exhausts the second long before the first.

Hobbyist at sixteen removes the watermark and not much else. Business at fifty adds dubbing across thirty odd languages, brand controls and a support SLA. The tool is worth paying for. Work out which meter you will hit before you pick the tier. A free tier leads into $16 a month for Hobbyist, $24 for Creator and $50 per user for Business, all on annual billing.
