Claude Fable 5.1 Review
Claude Fable 5.1AI Model
The point release that mattered more than most whole numbers, and the first model that reliably says it is unsure instead of guessing well.

Point releases are usually a benchmark tick and a price cut. This one changed how the model behaves on long tasks. Fable 5 could hold a complicated piece of work together across hours, which was its whole appeal, but it stated conclusions with a uniform confidence whether it had checked them or reasoned toward them, and the burden of telling those apart fell on you. 5.1 tracks the distinction and volunteers it, which sounds small and turns out to be the difference between a tool you supervise and one you delegate to.
Coding is where it shows most: given a failing test it now reproduces before it theorises, and when it cannot reproduce it says so rather than shipping a plausible patch. The weakness is that this care costs latency, and on short mechanical work it deliberates over things that did not need it, which is why repetitive tasks sits a tier below everything else. It is also expensive enough that the cheaper models remain the right default for bulk work.
