Routes across GPT-5.4, GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Astra by planAI Model
The default front door to all of this, and still the one that asks least of the person using it.

ChatGPT is the product that made this technology ordinary, and four years on it still wins the thing nobody has managed to copy: someone with no interest in any of it can open the page, type a sentence and get a useful answer. The model menu has grown long, but the default routing is good enough that most people never open it, and voice, file reading, image generation, deep research, a coding agent and a browser that can act on a page all arrive without installing anything.
Plus has held at twenty dollars a month for three years while everything under it multiplied, which is the strongest value argument in the category and the reason the reviews keep landing where they do. The objections are consistent. The free tier now carries advertising in the United States, which changes the character of the thing people recommend to their parents.
Six tiers with overlapping names is a mess, and most published comparisons of them are already out of date. On genuinely hard engineering the dedicated agents that live in a terminal or an editor finish work this one abandons, which is why coding sits a tier below the rest even though the same models run underneath. As the general assistant for everybody, it is still the one to beat.
