JustifiedElmore Leonard's dialogue, cast perfectly, in the best procedural of its decade.
Boardwalk EmpireThe most expensive pilot ever shot, a flawless Atlantic City, and a lead the show never quite solves.
TremeDavid Simon's portrait of New Orleans after Katrina, rich in music and character and almost wilfully uninterested in plot.
The PacificA harder, lonelier war than its predecessor, and a structure that keeps the audience at arm's length.
Downton AbbeyA first season nobody expected and five more that turn it into a very expensive soap, watched by everyone regardless.
The Walking DeadThe zombie show that owned television for six years, then spent another six proving how hard it is to stop.
