2019VizioTV
Searing HDR and deep blacks made this Vizio's best TV yet, held back by SmartCast, thin sound and no HDMI 2.1

The P-Series Quantum X, or PQX, was Vizio's bid to beat Samsung and Sony at their own game in 2019, and it was widely hailed as the best TV the brand had made. The 65 inch PX65-G1 has 384 local dimming zones and the 75 inch 480, both behind a quantum dot VA panel with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG support.
Brightness is the headline. Vizio claimed 3,000 nits and testers measured well over 2,000 in HDR, so highlights sear and the picture holds up in a sunny room. The dense dimming keeps blacks deep and uniform, colors are rich if not the most accurate, and HD upscaling is clean. Blooming shows around bright objects on dark backgrounds, some banding creeps into smooth gradients, and the image washes out a few feet off center.
The rest of the package is less polished. There are five HDMI inputs but none is HDMI 2.1, so there is no 4K at 120Hz, and 4K input lag drew mixed verdicts. SmartCast lacked an app store and leaned on Chromecast, and the two 10 watt speakers are thin enough that a soundbar is a must.
The 65 inch launched at 2,199.99 dollars, competitive for a flagship this bright, and later fell sharply. For anyone who wanted OLED like punch without burn in worries it was one of the brightest answers of 2019, but blooming, narrow viewing angles and a thin supporting cast kept it a step below the best sets of its year.
