Samsung S90D QD-OLED Review
2024SamsungTV
The picture of the S95D at a price that makes the flagship hard to justify, with a catch in the larger sizes.

The S90D is where Samsung's QD-OLED technology becomes a reasonable purchase. The quantum dot layer gives it colour volume that conventional OLED cannot reach, so saturated reds and greens keep their intensity in bright highlights instead of washing toward white, and the blacks are as perfect as any OLED. Against the S95D it loses the matte anti-reflective coating and the One Connect box, and it is a little less bright, none of which is worth the difference for most rooms.
The catch is that not every S90D is a QD-OLED: the 42, 48 and some regional 83 inch versions use a conventional WOLED panel, and the box does not say so. Buy a 55, 65 or 77 and it is among the best pictures available. Samsung still refuses Dolby Vision, and the Tizen software is the most aggressive about advertising of any manufacturer.
