The C5 is a caretaker model and a very good one. Nothing about the panel has moved far from the C4, which is the fair criticism and also the reason the set is easy to recommend: perfect blacks, natural color, immaculate motion and the most complete gaming provision of any television, with 144Hz, variable refresh and full bandwidth on all four inputs. The processing is a clear step above the cheaper B series and roughly level with Sony on everyday broadcast material.
Brightness is where the reviews turn cool. The measured gain over the C4 is small enough to be invisible, full screen brightness has not moved at all, and in a room with windows behind the sofa a Samsung quantum dot panel or a good Mini LED simply hits harder. In a dark room none of that matters. Six sizes from 42 to 83 inches means it fits rooms no rival OLED addresses, and a year after launch the street price makes it the value choice in the category.
