Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Review

2026SamsungPhone

The telephoto the Fold 8 gave up, an eight-inch inner screen and a cover display shaped like an ordinary phone, for two hundred dollars more.

Samsung split the Fold in two this year and the Ultra is the half that kept the hardware. Open, the inner panel is 8.0 inches at 2504 x 2256, the largest screen the company has folded; closed, the cover is 6.5 inches at 21:9, which is the shape of an ordinary phone rather than the passport the Fold 8 carries. The second number matters more than the first. A cover screen you can write a full message on is the difference between a foldable you open when you want to and one you open because you have to.

The cameras are what the extra money buys. A 200-megapixel main sensor, the same part the S26 Ultra uses, sits beside a 50-megapixel ultrawide and a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto, and the telephoto is precisely what the cheaper Fold 8 does without. It is a short reach next to the S26 Ultra's periscope and a modest sensor besides, but a foldable that can frame a face across a room instead of cropping into it is a different tool. Flex Titanium, the titanium plate laid under the panel, leaves the crease shallower than any Fold before it, and Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 protects the cover screen.

Everything else is the flagship kit. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy is the quickest chip on Android, the silicon-carbon cell holds 5000 mAh and 45W wired charging reaches about two thirds in half an hour, and One UI 9 on Android 17 carries seven years of updates. At 215 grams it is fourteen grams heavier than the Fold 8 and still lighter than several slab phones, though IP48 still means water and not dust. The number that will stop people is $2,099, a hundred more than the Fold 7 asked and two hundred above the Fold 8 standing beside it. Given what the Fold 8 leaves out, it is the two hundred worth paying.
