2025SamsungPhone
Six years after the first one broke, the Fold is finally thin, finally fast and finally a phone most people could carry.

The Z Fold 7 is the first Fold that does not ask for a trade. Closed it is 8.9 millimetres thick and 215 grams, lighter than a Galaxy S25 Ultra and under a millimetre thicker, with a 6.5-inch cover screen that is a normal 21:9 phone rather than a remote control. Open it is 4.2 millimetres of 8-inch tablet, and the crease, still there when light rakes across it, has flattened enough that your thumb stops noticing. Samsung got here by shrinking the Armor FlexHinge, backing the folding panel with a titanium plate and dropping the S Pen digitizer altogether. After four generations of S Pen support that will sting some owners, and it was the right call for everyone else.
The 200 megapixel main camera is the S25 Ultra's and the gain shows at 2x crops and in low light; the 10 megapixel 3x telephoto and 12 megapixel ultrawide are carried over and merely fine. The under-display camera inside is gone, replaced by a plain 10 megapixel punch hole, uglier and much better. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is as fast as any 2025 phone, and this was the first phone to ship with Android 16, with One UI 8 and the multitasking Samsung has been polishing since the Fold 4.
The battery is still 4400 mAh with 25 watt charging, the same numbers as three Folds ago, in a year when Oppo and Honor put 5600 to 5800 mAh silicon-carbon cells behind 66 and 80 watt chargers in bodies just as thin. It lasts a day. It does not last more.
On reliability the honest answer is that it is two months old. The rating is IP48, the same water protection since 2021 and still no proper dust seal, and it is still a plastic-topped screen on a hinge. In its favour: seven years of Android and security updates, the stiffest frame the line has had, and a gapless hinge that has generated far fewer failure threads since the Fold 5 introduced it. At $1,999.99 it is the first Fold that is a phone first and a novelty second.
