Samsung's 2026 mid ranger looks and lasts like a flagship, but a slow chip and a higher price blunt the appeal

The Galaxy A57 is Samsung's volume mid ranger for 2026, and it costs 50 dollars more than the A56 it replaces. It is slimmer and 20g lighter than that phone, with Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back, an aluminum frame and full IP68 protection, so it genuinely looks and feels like a Galaxy S model.

Reviewers like most of what they see. The 6.7 inch Super AMOLED screen is bright and smooth at 120Hz, battery life has improved on the same 5,000mAh cell, and One UI 8.5 on Android 16 arrives with six years of OS upgrades and a helping of Galaxy AI. The 50MP main and 12MP selfie cameras take sharp, pleasing photos, though video tops out at 4K and 30fps.

The criticisms are just as consistent. The Exynos 1680 is only a modest step over last year's chip, trails the cheaper Pixel 10a in graphics tests and can run hot under sustained load. The 5MP macro camera adds nothing, there is no telephoto, charging tops out at 45W with no wireless option, and DeX and some flagship AI tools are missing.

It is a polished, dependable phone with very few real flaws. The problem is value, because the discounted A56 and the Galaxy S25 FE make it hard to justify at full price.
