2025SamsungPhone
Six years of updates on a $200 phone is the headline; the slow chip and 4GB of memory are the fine print.

The Galaxy A17 5G is Samsung's entry level 5G phone, released in Europe in August 2025 and in the United States on January 7, 2026 at $199.99, and it sells in huge numbers: Counterpoint ranked it among the five best selling phones in the US in the second quarter of 2026. For the money it does the basics well, with a 6.7 inch FHD+ Super AMOLED at 90Hz, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging, a 50MP main camera with optical stabilization, IP54, and the same six years of Android upgrades and security patches as phones that cost twice as much.
The compromises are in speed. The Exynos 1330 is an old chip, and with 4GB of memory in the US model apps reload and the interface stutters under load, the complaint reviewers made most often. Tech Advisor called it another good budget phone from Samsung but barely changed from the A16 5G, and PhoneArena liked the screen and the battery for the price while faulting the memory and the dated design. The ultrawide and macro cameras, at 5MP and 2MP, are afterthoughts.
The battery is an A, and the support, build and screen are B grades. The camera is a C, and performance and innovation sit at D. It is a C: a sensible phone for someone who wants a big screen and long support on a budget, and a frustrating one for anyone in a hurry.
