The iPhone 18 Pro Max landed on 18 September 2026 as Apple's flagship, and it is a careful sharpening of a familiar shape rather than a reinvention. The headline is the new A20 Pro, which keeps Apple ahead on raw speed and sustained performance, and a battery that Apple calls the longest lasting it has ever put in an iPhone. In daily use that claim holds up, with easy all day endurance and a comfortable buffer.
Photography gets the most interesting change. The 48MP main camera adds a variable aperture, so you can control depth of field and keep more of a scene sharp when you want to. Paired with the wider and telephoto sensors, it is one of the two or three best phone camera systems you can buy, especially for video, where the iPhone still leads.
Elsewhere it is polished and predictable. The 6.9 inch display is bright and smooth, the Dynamic Island is a little smaller, and there is a new 2TB storage option for people who shoot a lot of ProRes. iOS 26 will see updates for many years, which remains a real advantage over most of Android.
Starting at 1,299 dollars it is not cheap, and if you own last year's Pro Max the gains are incremental. But as a buy it once and keep it phone, with the best battery, top speed and elite cameras, it is very hard to fault.
