Glasses free 3D that everybody turned off, on a handheld that quietly became one of Nintendo's best.

The headline feature was a failure the machine survived. Glasses free 3D was clever and made a surprising number of people queasy, and most owners slid the depth slider to off within a week. The launch was bad enough that Nintendo cut the price by a third inside six months and gave early buyers twenty free games in apology. Then the software arrived. Ocarina of Time 3D and A Link Between Worlds, Fire Emblem Awakening, three Pokemon generations, Animal Crossing New Leaf, Kid Icarus, and a remarkable stream of Japanese role playing games gave it a library that rivals the DS in depth and beats it in quality.

The New 3DS added a second stick the original should have had. It is an ugly machine with a great catalogue, which describes a lot of Nintendo hardware, and it was the last dedicated handheld before the company folded that line into the Switch.
