Ninety minutes of likeable chemistry and one genuinely great gimmick, tied to a villain with a hole where a plan should be.

The shortest film in the run is also its most cheerfully strange, and it is a shame the machinery around it collapsed so completely. The entanglement conceit, three heroes involuntarily swapping places whenever they use their powers, produces the most original action idea the studio has had in years, a fight whose choreography depends on characters landing in each other's crises mid punch. The musical planet is a genuinely odd swing that nobody talked them out of.

Iman Vellani is a delight, playing pure uncomplicated fandom, and the sequence where dozens of alien cats swallow a crew to a lounge standard is the funniest three minutes of the phase. But the picture has been cut to the bone at one hundred and five minutes, so relationships arrive already resolved and Brie Larson's abandonment of an entire people is dispatched in a single line of dialogue. Zawe Ashton's Dar-Benn is a nothing villain with a hammer and a grudge. Worst of all it assumes you have watched two television series, and it does not much care whether you have. Charming, rushed, incoherent.
